Odalys Fontenot
INHABITEDAtmospheric flux analyst for the Sabine Corridor measurement authority. She resolves humidity-corridor moisture flux from orbital near-infrared water-vapor absorption bands; her flux maps are the evidence in extraction licensing and downwind-debt disputes.
LOCATION
Sabine Corridor
Personality
Restrained, precise, systems-minded. Speaks in mass balance and error bars. Loyal to the downwind parishes she came from, but bound to the neutrality of measurement — a tension she has not resolved.
Background
She grew up on a Fontenot well rig outside Orange, watching her father chase a water table that kept dropping until it was gone. She followed the water upward — from the aquifer to the river to the air itself — and trained in remote sensing. Now she reads the corridor from orbit, and the flux maps she produces decide who is licensed to extract and who is owed the rain that never arrives downwind. She trusts instruments over people and distrusts any number that comes out round.
CULTURE
Cajun-Creole and Tejano Gulf Coast. Raised bilingual in Louisiana French and Spanish, fluent in the corridor working creole where flux, slack, and downwind debt are everyday speech.
WHY THIS NAME
Odalys is a Tejano-Creole given name common along the coast; Fontenot is an old Cajun surname meaning little spring or fountain. Her people found water in the ground for four generations; when it ran out, they learned to measure the water that has not yet fallen. Neither name appears in any default register.
